Michael Franti and Spearhead's Obama song

Michael Franti and Spearhead released this video and song about Obama in December. It's worth revisiting one more time. At least.

You can also download the song for free at Spearhead Vibrations.

I'm not sure what to think about this. Honestly the song could be half as long. As wonderful as it is to have a country truly rallying around its new leader, I think the music industry is going to roll out a bandwagon that is going to completely saturate the industry with sound-alike songs praising Barak Obama. Again, wonderful to have a country rally around its leader, he's got a tough road and needs the support. He's got mine.
The current hit-maker formula in the music biz very well could be to write a catchy, shiny happy song about Barak Obama. The music industry is one based on trends and hype, and trends and hype are the groundwork for industries like MTV.
Trends and hype do not make interesting music.

Ha! I knew that post would get Liggett off the couch and on the keyboard!

I know, it sounds like a long (looonnngg) advertising jingle. But, hey, it's nice to be able to be positive and excited for change.

And what's wrong with a little happy hippie music now and then?? You guys from the '90s are so gloomy all the time ... (heheheheh.)

Actually, I'm much more excited for Guru tonight at the Abbey!

Lest we forget that rebellious rockers can make hits, make people dance, and help push a society to change course in mid-collapse, here is a scene that made me an unabashed Spearhead enthusiast.

Mid-summer of the endless "War on Terror," sitting by the porta-potties at a lightly organized mountain-town music festival, and drinking my brother's beers while listening to Franti get a crowd of several thousand future Obama voters to "Yell Fire," and then sing, "Power to the Peaceful." Did my old Vietnam-era peace warrior heart proud. The beer was good, too.
